Glencore is the big winner out of the recent Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) North Queensland regional mining conference and awards night in Cloncurry.

The conference titled, Challenging standard practices to find value in adverse conditions, drew around 100 delegates and suppliers.

The awards attracted 17 nominations all from Glencore operations.

The Innovation Award was taken out by the superintendent of metallurgy at the Ernest Henry Mine concentrator, Jose Siliezar.

Mr Siliezar was nominated for his work on rougher concentrate redirection to improve copper and gold recovery while reducing operating costs and maintaining final concentrate quality.

Nominations came from across the board in Glencore and included a process to lower a 20t cable down the R62 shaft (at Mount Isa Mines) without causing damage; advanced ventilation control devices and a road train tyre wash rack.

Suppliers were prominent and included platinum sponsor Dyno Nobel.

Other sponsors were Mount Isa Mining Supplies, Aecom, Glencore, MMG and AMDAD.
