Cairns port project faces further delays

Posted February 27, 2015

A major north Queensland development is facing delays due to the new government’s policy on dredging the reef, The Cairns Post reported.

The Cairns Shipping Development Project Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) has now been five months in the making.

The Palaszczuk Government’s policy on dredging would need to be accounted for, said a spokesperson for the Co-ordinator General’s office.

Cairns MP Rob Pyne is among members who are pushing for the document to be released.

“As we speak I’ve emailed the minister requesting its release and awaiting reply,’’ Mr Pyne said.

“How can you have an intelligent public discussion if this information isn’t made public?”
