Coal record for BHP

Posted July 24, 2015

BHP Billiton has announced a record 43 million tonnes in metallurgical coal production for 2014-15, up by 13 per cent on the previous financial year.
The company said record production and sales volumes for its Queensland coal operations were underpinned by the successful ramp-up of the new Caval Ridge mine at Moranbah and continued productivity improvements.
It has flagged an expected end to operations at Crinum, north-east of Emerald, in the first quarter of the 2016 calendar year as the mine approaches the end of its economic reserve life, taking forecast metallurgical coal production across the group down to 40 million tonnes for 2015-16.
Longwall moves at the Broadmeadow and Crinum mines, and wash-plant shutdowns at Goonyella and Peak Downs mines are scheduled for the September 2015 quarter.
