Gladstone Engineering Alliance is hosting an event in March to promote the region’s supply chain capability to major industry groups statewide.

The inaugural Gladstone Resource Industry Supply Chain Expo will be held at the Gladstone Entertainment and Convention Centre on March 17.

GEA projects officer Kim Roberts said invitations had gone out to organisations including the Major Contractors Association, Master Builders Australia and Queensland Resources Council as well as resource companies and government representatives.

“We want them to come to Gladstone and reconnect with people operating in the region or get to know new suppliers and really understand what is here,” she said.

Organisers planned to involve more than 60 local exhibitors, who would all be GEA members with offices in Gladstone, she said.

“We know Gladstone has the capacity to deliver to a world-class standard,” Ms Roberts said.

“We want to give Gladstone companies the opportunity to showcase that Queensland-wide.”

GEA also has an industry update luncheon planned for February 24, when representatives from Boyne Smelters, NRG and Gladstone Ports Corporation will provide the local business community with commodity outlooks.

Ms Roberts said the session should give participants a better understanding of how prices were affecting industry at top level and what this meant for suppliers.
