Local contractor wins Mackay road upgrade

The upgrade of a busy road intersection in Mackay has been awarded to Doval Constructions.

Preliminary works are expected to start on the Juliet and Penn streets intersection in November with major works commencing between December and March.

The $768,000 contract will include upgrades to traffic signals and a dedicated turning lane to separate through and turning traffic.

The intersection is prone to congestion at school pick-up and drop-off times due to its proximity to Mercy College Mackay.

Doval Constructions represented the best value for money for council, said roads and drainage portfolio councillor Kevin Casey.

Juliet Street will be kept open to traffic at all times, although it may be under traffic control during some stages of the works, Mr Casey said.
