Stevedore NSS has officially commissioned a new facility at the Port of Townsville which is rewriting the standard on bulk storage.

The $15m shed covering 8,500 sq metres is negatively pressured as part of its environmental credentials.

The shed was officially opened yesterday by Minister for Disability Services, Seniors and Minister Assisting the Premier on North Queensland, Coralee O’Rourke.

NSS has passed the milestone of seven million tonnes handled through the Port of Townsville with a hat tipped at the ceremony to Sun Metals Corporation for its long standing association.

Capture systems and quick response access are among a suite of measures that helps maintain negative pressure ensuring the control of dust emissions.

A wash bay delivering 1,200l of water a minute under pressure ensures that no product is taken into the community. The water is captured from the roof where NSS is also planning to install a 100Kw solar power system.
