Port Alma remains closed

Coal ports of Port Alma and Bundaberg on the Central Queensland coast remain closed after receiving damage from Tropical Cyclone Marcia last week.

A sugar vessel was due to arrive in Bundaberg on Saturday and all efforts would be focussed on reopening the port in time for the docking, Department of Transport spokesperson told IHS Maritime.

“We are checking navigation aids at both these ports but flood waters are slowing our progress,” he said.

“Both ports are expected to be the subject of hydrographic surveys this Thursday and Friday.”

All other ports affected by the cyclone have reopened for business.
