Subcontractors make a stand

Posted February 15, 2016

A fortnightly electronic bulletin is now being circulated across the state and farther afield in New South Wales, the ACT, Victoria and South Australia to keep subcontractors abreast of what is happening in their industry.

“There are about 90,000 subcontractors in Queensland alone and we want as many of them as possible reading the newsletter to keep abreast of what is happening,” Subcontractors Alliance chairman Les Williams said.

“We want the newsletter to be a forum for your views. We want feedback to be able to better represent you in the industry.”

It will appear on a Wednesday each fortnight - so mark it in your diary.

Feedback will be vital to its success and we want to also publish photographs of milestones reached by employees, anniversary celebrations for businesses and the passing of long-time individuals in the industry.

You will see contact numbers and email addresses for Les Williams, secretary Kylie McIlroy and board members Juanita Gibson and Graham Cohen elsewhere in the newsletter.

The subcontractors’ industry has been under-represented for too long, so here is your chance to take ownership by getting on board.

With a federal election slated for late this year, it’s time for you all to speak with your federal members and find out just where they stand on fairer working and pay conditions.

Mr Williams said there were more than 400,000 subcontractors in Australia and they all vote.

“By having a united voice, we can make a difference by putting federal politicians on notice,” he said.
